Babakov (1941 – 1943), Prof. A.A. Akhiezer (1943 – 1944), Ass. Prof. L.K. Dobrecov (1944 – 1945), Prof. L.V. Gulnitsky (1945 – 1971), Prof. T.H. Chormonov (1971 – 1991), Prof. L.M. Dautov (1991 - 1993), Prof. B.M. Iskakov (1993 – 1997), Prof. S.E. Kumekov (2003 – 2010), Prof. T.B. Begimov (1985 – 1988, 1989 – 1995, 1997 – 2003, 2010 – 2013), Ass. Prof. Maylina H.R. (2013 – present day).
Honored scientist of the Kazakh SSR, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Leonid Vikentievich Gulnitsky, who became the head of department in 1945, involved not only research but also the creation of instruments in the field of actinometry. He developed the theory of absolute methods of measuring the solar constant, which characterizes the stability of the solar radiation. In 1971, there were organized the Department of Applied Physics together with the Department of General Physics, the head of which was the Honored Scientist of the Kazakh SSR, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Talgat Khasanovich Chormonov. On his initiative, the experimental work of mono- and poly-crystals growth from ferromagnetic alloys in an ultrasonic field was further developed. It solved the problem of electrode welding of metal objects with superimposed ultrasonic vibrations. The results of scientific research work carried out by teachers of the Department of Applied Physics, were introduced at the largest enterprises of Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Electron Industry in Severodvinsk, Penza and Ryazan.
From 1991 to 1993 the Head of the Department of Applied Physics was Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor L.M. Dautov, his research is devoted to the theory of high temperature superconductivity.
From 1993 to 1997 the Department of Applied Physics headed Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor B.M. Iskakov. In 2010 he won a grand “The Best Teacher of the High School”. Scientific researches of Professor B.M. Iskakov are related to the area of mathematical modeling of structures and physical properties of metals exposed to extremely harsh radiation-thermal effects. The scientific and pedagogical activity of B.M. Iskakov awarded by the departmental awards: “Excellence in Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan” and “Honorary Worker of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan”.
In 1995 the Department of Applied Physics was combined with the Department of General Physics.
From 2003 to 2010 the Head of the Department of General and Theoretical Physics of KazNTU was the Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, grants winner in 2006, 2007 “The Best Teacher of High School” S.E. Kumekov. The scientific researches of Prof. S.E. Kumekov are related to the study of heterostructures on the basis of oxide semiconductors, optical orientation of electron spins in two-dimensional semiconductor structures. The scientific and pedagogical activity of S.E. Kumekov awarded by the Order “Kurmet” of Kazakhstan and awards: “Honored Worker of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan”, “Excellence in Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan”, breastplate of “For Merits in Development of Science of Kazakhstan”.
In periods from 1997 to 2003 and from 2010 to 2013 the joint Department was headed by Professor T.B. Begimov, formerly headed the Department of Fundamental Disciplines (1985 – 1988) and the Department of General Physics (1989 – 1995. The scientific and research work of Professor T. B. Begimov is related to the research of physical and mechanical properties of intermetallics.
He was awarded by the breastplate of “For Excellence in Works” of the Ministry of High and Secondary Special Education of USSR, “Excellence in Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan”, the medals “Airyksha engbegi ushin” (For Great Work), “Ardager” (Veteran), and by the honorary certificates of the University.
Since 2013, the Head of the Department of General and Theoretical Physics becomes the Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Ass. Prof. H.R. Maylina. The research work of H.R. Maylina is related to the study of electronic and thermal properties of doped semiconductors. The scientific-pedagogical activity of H.R. Maylina awarded by the Honorary Diploma of Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The achievements of the department today were possible due to the enthusiasm and creativity of generations of scientists and teachers. A large contribution to the development of the Department of General and Theoretical Physics made Veterans of the Department: M.G. Karimov, M.S. Kushpanov, V.M. Podkladnev, A.A. Alpysbaeva, S.S.
